O Primeiro

Five characters: four men and a woman form a queue starting from a line drawn on the floor. The funny yet cunning confrontation happens whenever each of the characters wants to be No.1 in the queue they form for NOTHING.
On a philosophical level, the play exposes the ridicule of the apparent substance of some confrontations that occur between individuals in society.
Press highlight
‘(…) to point out the surprisingly good work of Elisabete Martins, premiering as a stage director at 23 years old.’
‘O Primeiro is also the concrete proof that it’s possible to create a good show without sophisticated means and complicated sets: held only by the text and their talent, without the support of a complex set, ACTA’s actors manage to amuse the audience, and with a great efficiency in communication, even challenge cinema and television. It’s worth to go to the theatre and see O Primeiro. It’s like a Marx brother’s movie: it’s the best medicine you can take for depressions and setbacks of daily life. The effect lasts longer then Prozac. Guaranteed.’
João Prudêncio, Jornal do Algarve, 04/04/02
‘The audience, who applauded tremendously the first staging of Elisabete Martins, ACTA’s young actress. (…) With a performing work that improves with each production, the professionals that brought into life Horowitz’s characters contributed in a large amount to the quality of the play.”
